The Jesus Model
Art for God is a web site that appears to be run by a modern Christian artist and his model who poses as Jesus, announcing a National Christian Art Competion.
Link to story about model for Steve Sawyer’s paintings.
More contemporary renderings of Jesus Christ:
After looking at this commercial confusion of the image of Jesus, the Muslim limitations on figurative art is understandable, thus there are very few images of Muhammed to be found on the web.
There is a large assortment at Jesus of the Week 2005.

Inspired Design
We’re getting closer to locating God. Following up on a previous Intelligent Design article, members of the Pastafarian religion are using their noodles to add more sauce to the debate.
The long time faithful know righteously that this is only a new religious flavor of the week, and that the true sweet Way of Truth is through The Church of the SubGenius.

Looking for Allen Ginsberg?
In case you are looking for the link to the Allen Ginsberg page, it is here. The photos are from a taping of Leon Varjian’s “The Vern and Evelyn Show” on WISC-TV Madison, WI where Allen gamely made a appearance on a local home spun comedy show. Ginsberg referred to this as “jackanapes” after seeing the theatrical video nonsense we were performing.
Sooner or later I’ll get around to adding more to this thread, such as Leon where the hell are you?

Intelligent Design in Translation
The writer at RIGHTWING NUTHOUSE sums up the many issues of the bubbling Intelligent Design debate as well or better than the many commentaries thrown into this primordial stew.
Since President Bush commented recently regarding Intelligent Design, ‘’I think that part of education is to expose people to different schools of thought,” the evolutionary can of worms has been opened.
It’s great, because now we can hope for many schools of thought to be discussed, although many do not have direct bearing on evolution. They are simply articles of faith and belief, such as those embraced by the idealogues within the Bush inner circle.
The Hindu term Satchitananda, is their concept of an omniscient God. Perhaps it is long overdue for public education classes to turn more attention to the study of the ideas and principles of philosophy and world religions. This will provide students with more balanced and understanding perspectives of global consciousness.
The writings of scholars such as Hank Wesselman and Carlos Castaneda discuss what sounds like a cosmic multicellular entity, composed of all the souls of the universe combined in a matrix. That many minds acting in harmony is closer to God than this world, or maybe it’s just a like a bunch of glowing jellyfish floating around peacefully on the waves of space. I agree with our Great White Father Bush in the White House, and encourage the reading and discussion of these books in classrooms as soon as possible.
For a more scholarly look at geological time and evolution, see the excellent web site, The Virtual Fossil Museum.

Movie Crashers
Most likely I’ll only see “Wedding Crashers” when it goes to DVD. Those who need summertime head-in-the-sand escapism, then take heart. Newspaper reviews cheer…
- FUNNIER THAN “ANCHORMAN!”
- HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE “DODGEBALL!”
Hey man, that sounds great. I’ll bet it’s even funnier than “Million Dollar Baby” too. Unfortunately some real unhumorous critics, probably liberal gay marriage soreheads wrote…
- RECYCLED “PORKEY’S” ERA GAGS.
- UNLIKE “OLD SCHOOL” and “STARSKY & HUTCH.”
Geez, the competition is tough. The bar gets raised higher every day, dammit!
Have to admit I’ve grown weary of Owen’s poo poo lips face. This may be Wilson’s Jim Carrey turning point where in his next movies he will be curled up in a fetal ball questioning his existence. Can’t he stand up for something real, like Scientology, which looks like 1950’s repackaged Vedanta Yoga… or is he just trapped in a swampy Butterscotch Stallion controversy?

Greetings from the Rapture
Is practicing Christian Reconstructionism, Fundamentalism and Dominionism life’s E-Z Pass to heaven? Let’s say you know you’re going to heaven, but you’re worried your golfing buddies may not qualify. Thanks to RaptureLetters.com you can send your sinner sidekicks e-mail messages after you’ve ascended. That’s assuming their computers, system administrators and power company are all hell bound unbelievers. Hallmark Cards should really look into this market.
TheocracyWatch.com can help you keep track of the movement to run the U.S. government by divine guidance. A conference at New York’s CUNY Graduate Center, “Examining the Real Agenda of the Religious Right,” April 29th and 30th, 2005 addresses these issues.
More on the Religious Right.

Gary Coleman Stands Tall
There are serious topics I am contemplating, such as Nationalism, Militarism and Christian Fundamentalism and why so many Americans blindly follow. Others march to Diff’rent Strokes, such as free thinking, independent and good natured Gary Coleman. He’s a tough little guy, challenging Arnold Schwarzenegger by campaigning in the 2003 California race for governor.
I checked Celebrity Blogwatch and was disappointed that Gray has not gotten into blogging the way David Duchovny has. A poll of the web tells me poor Gary suffers from public whipping boy status: celebrities who are fair game in the press, who some folks just love to hate, such as Jane Fonda. Still, it would be interesting to read what is stroking in his different mind.

God Is Everywhere
In these recent days of Pope John Paul II‘s passing, there has been great attention to religion and God’s earthly presence. Some even see the Virgin Mary on a concrete wall stained by salt water. I think it looks like something less sanctified, but to each their own.
The Catholic Church‘s conclave and selection of the new Pope reminds me a bit of the U. S. government and Supreme Court. In the real world of business it is very rare to see a 78 year old man chosen for a top position. Religions and governments, being very good at soaking the masses for their funding, appear to be great retirement homes for the good old boys.
Johnny The Baptist is a good old boy who was not eligible for the papacy, and found his pathway to Salvation through the School of Hard Knocks. If you are looking for some kind of honest redneck inspiration, his rugged life story is worth a look.
